Bream in the city

One of the many great qualities about bream - and there are many - is their willingness to embrace urban development. In all of our big cities around Australia, bream (of varying species) can be found in the adjacent waterways, and to clued in local anglers they make excellent sport. Urban bream are great for anyone wanting to scratch the itch with a quick session near home, and gearing up for it is as simple as it gets.

Urban breamers have success from boats, kayaks and on foot, and access for any of these is usually available in abundance. Man-made structures such as retaining walls, bridges, pontoons, jetties and boat moorings are all great pieces of cover for bream, and most waterways within larger cities have these things in good supply. Cities such as Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Darwin all have viable bream fisheries - some secret, some not-so-secret!

To get set-up to target these city-slickers, a light spin outfit is going to be your best weapon. Light braid in the 2-6lb range or even straight fluorocarbon from 2-4lb is all you need to wrangle even the largest bream - although there could be some losses from extra large specimens!
